Normandy Oak Parquet Clock, Normandy, Pays De Caux, Wedding Clock, 19th Century
Beautiful oak and oak mesh floor clock, mid-19th century.
In Normandy, these clocks were most often given as wedding gifts. This one, originally from the Cauchois region, features some very fine Louis XVI-style carving. It is adorned with ribbons, baskets of flowers and small geometrical motifs.
The cornice in the shape of a gendarme hat gives it great elegance.
This clock is complete with its mechanism, and the bell produces a very pretty sound. The mechanism needs to be overhauled, however, as we can't get it to work properly.
