Mahogany Writing Desk At Waist Height, Louis Philippe Period, Lecturer's Desk
A large, high-height lecturer's or notary's desk, forming a writing surface, made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, dating from the Louis Philippe period. The desk rests on Jacob's legs joined by three stretcher shelves. The drop-front is covered in dark green leather showing signs of use and wear. It opens to reveal a lockable compartment. A strip of wood holds documents in place while they are being read or written. The top of the desk has two slots for inkwells; the two inkwells are made of glass (likely later additions) and are in very good condition. The central space is for storing pens. A superb piece with a beautiful patina. Interior dimensions of the compartment: rear height 25cm // front height 9cm // length 55cm // width 36cm
