"Large Louis XV Style Gilded Wood Screen, Napoleon III Period, Embroidered Velvet Fabric, 19th Century"
Superb Louis XV style gilt wood screen, Napoleon III period, mid-19th century. Composed of three parts, this screen presents a work of floral and plant motifs directly embroidered on a slightly apricot cream-colored velvet, other motifs are positioned in silky fabric applications, all harmoniously done. The central leaf of our screen has a cartouche in the upper part. The latter is composed of a thick, moving and beveled glass. The three panels are held together by hinges pivoting both forward and backward, thus allowing the screen to be installed in many positions. This screen is structurally in very good condition. The end of the feet of the left part has been planed, probably in order to obtain better stability of the whole. A major restoration has been carried out on the right leaf of the screen (see photos). We also note traces of scratches as well as material wear in the velvet (see photos 10 and 11). The back is lined with a white fabric undoubtedly installed at the time of the restoration of the embroidered part. It has some discreet stains. Very decorative and relatively imposing in size, this screen is a piece of furniture in its own right.
