A Pair Of Miniature Chairs In Viennese Enamel.
A pair of miniature chairs in Viennese enamel. Enamel is an artistic technique that fuses glass paste to metal surfaces—used as a base—through a process of firing in a kiln. Originating from the need to add “color” to precious metals, it is a technique that lies between glassmaking and goldsmithing. Enamel decoration has been known since ancient times. In the 19th century, attempts were made, particularly in France and Vienna, to revive the art of enamelwork, largely by reconnecting with medieval traditions. Vienna, in particular, became an important center in the second half of the 19th century for the crafting of silver and bronze objects decorated with enamel to add color. For collectors, there is also a third small armchair and an adorable side table.
