An 18th-century Ivory Box With A Painted Miniatur
An 18th-century ivory box with a painted miniature depicting Adélaïde of Bourbon-France (1732–1800), known as Madame Adélaïde, was the fourth daughter (third surviving) of King Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska. An influential figure at Versailles, she was known for her strong personality, passion for music, and active political role, often opposing her father's mistresses, such as Madame de Pompadour. Unlike some of her sisters, she did not marry and lived in Versailles, devoting herself to study, music, and, later, opposition to the French Revolution. In 1791, together with her sister Victoria, she left France to escape the Revolution. She spent her last years in Trieste, where she died in 1800.
