Antique Fan, Circa 1830, Pagoda Frame, Ferdinand Le Coustellier
Rare fan from the first part of the 19th century. Double leaf printed in intaglio and enhanced with gouache, depicting the four seasons on the first side. Each of the superb seasonal illustrations accompanied by a poem in Spanish poem relating the seasons to the four ages of life. Inscribed on the left of the leaf: "Paris, fabricade abanicos de Fdo Coustellier et Cia". On the reverse, Hector's farewell to Andromache. "Pagoda" mounting in pierced and gilded ivory.
It measures 8,86 inches long when closed andclosed and 16,53 inches in diameter.
