Richly Engraved Germanic Sword Of Justice

It's an execution sword, known as a "Justice sword" Germanic origin, probably dates from the late 17th century. The executions at that time were either by hanging for thieves and low-level criminals, or by decapitation, which could be carried out as in England and Central Europe, by means of an axe of justice, or using a sword when the executioner was sufficiently skilled. The handle is relatively long, to give greater force to the blow.
BLADE : this is thetype of  blade characteristic of execution swords. It has a broad, flattened lenticular section. Both sides are richly engraved
On the inner face is the famous inscription: "Die Herren steuren dem Unheil"(= the Lords have decreed the law") "Ich exequiere Ihr Endls Urtheil" (= I execute their final decision")Then a wheel ofjustice
Atthe shoulder  level ,near the guard is the name of the executor: Kuisl im Shongau which probably correspond to Hans Jacob Kuisl, executor in Shongau from1683 à 1696. Several members of the same family succeeded each other: Hans Kuisl 1711-1734, Jacob Kuisl 1735..., Josef Benedikt Kuisl, 1783-1807...  The engravings are characteristic of this type of weapon.
On the outer side , we find  in large letters the inscription "Ich schone Niemand " (= I spare no one) then the justice woods surmounted by a legged cross which is the archaic version of the Teutonic cross as used during  the 13th century, according to the "Banderia Prutenorum".
At the shoulder, near the guard is the Latin inscription: DIRUM SCELUS NON MANET INULIAM (Serious crimes do not go unpunished). Blade length 76cm, width at shoulder= 4.4 cm, thickness at shoulder 4.3 mm
The balance pointis only 6 cm from the hilt, where as it is frequently located in the middle or last third of the blade for this type of sword. This gives a very good balance in the hand.
CROSS GUARD :  This is a very simple iron guard, as usually in  this type of sword. It has two flattened straight quillons.
POMMEL: made of iron, quite great size , with 6 sides. Its shape evokes the corolla of a flower
GRIP : It is covered in brown leather which has hardened with time.

This  weapon is special. It is indisputably linked to Germanic culture. Theworkmanship is archaic, and the engravings are not in the style used for engraving during the 19th century. However, it is sometimes difficult to be certain of the precise dating of such a particular type of weapon.
