Pair Of Vases Attributed To Ernest Chaplet
Ernest Chaplet (1835-1909), was a pioneer of the ceramic revival in the last quarter of the 19th century.
He produced barbotines in Bourg La reine in the years 1860-1870.
He went on to work in porcelain, notably with Charles Haviland. In 1882, he became director of the Paris workshops of Haviland & Cie. In 1885, Charles Haviland sold his Auteuil workshops to Chaplet. He also created brown stoneware and glazed stoneware in the Japanese style. A few years later, he moved to Choisy-le-Roi, where he developed his highly successful "flammés rouge sand de boeuf".
In any case, Ernest Chaplet moved from stoneware to porcelain and always sought to innovate. The first of a new generation of ceramists, he paved the way for Art Nouveau.
