"epi De Maïs" Bottle, Sèvres Manufactory

Artist: Henri Brécy
“Epi de maïs” Bottle, Manufacture de Sèvres

Enameled porcelain bottle, model created by Henri Brécy, active in Sèvres between 1881 and 1928. Bears the manufacturer's stamp with the date 1898.

This model was presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. The subtle play of colors and the finesse of the porcelain perfectly complement this naturalistic, almost trompe-l'oeil bottle.

A similar example is reproduced in L'Art Décoratif de 1900, and a pair is mentioned in Paul Arthur's book, The Magic of Sèvres, 1900 (p. 40), in collaboration with the Robert Zehill Gallery
