Bertrand Girard (1947) - Bonheur Du Jour

Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Signed on the back by the artist, a renowned French painter who settled in Palma de Mallorca in the mid-twentieth century.

On the wicker rocking chair, whose fibers preserve the creak of a thousand siestas, Mediterranean light filters through with the delicate grace of gauze, settling on the white linen of the nightgown like a lover of silence. It's a domestic poetry written in the folds of fabric, where the sun doesn't burn but caresses, transforming whiteness into a vibrant surface of mauve shadows and pearly reflections. In the girl's sleep, the air seems suspended so as not to disturb the vibration of a speck of dust dancing under the backlight; everything in the room exudes a scent of cleanliness, Marseille soap and suspended time. This is the triumph of minimalism: the subtle dialogue between the light filtering through the half-open blinds and the fragility of suspended rest, cradled by the sea breeze, in that eternal moment when childhood is but a parenthesis of light.
