Jules CHARDIGNY or CHARDINY was born around 1840 in London. He died in Paris in 1892. A French painter and sculptor, a pupil of his father, he made his debut at the 1868 Salon with a bust of "Paul et Virginie". A portrait painter, he produced mainly portraits of dogs. This small terrier with a blue collar is posed from the front. Jules Chardigny is featured in "Bénézit". The painting is enhanced by a pitchpin frame.
