Louis Garin - Autumn / Summer - 20th Century - The 4 Seasons (continuation Of The Seasons, Next Item)
Artist: Louis Garin
Pair of oil paintings on canvas depicting autumn and summer, part of a complete series (the other two seasons are shown on a separate page on my profile). Louis Garin (1888–1959), a Breton painter and illustrator, was born in Rennes and dedicated his life to celebrating Brittany, its light, and its traditions. After a modest upbringing and beginnings as a railway worker, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and devoted himself fully to painting from the 1930s onward. His work, imbued with gentleness and truth, depicts seascapes, popular festivals, and everyday Breton life. He is distinguished by a luminous palette, balanced compositions, and a profound sense of atmosphere. Garin also created important mural decorations, notably for the Church of Sainte-Thérèse in Rennes and the ocean liner Normandie, demonstrating his talent as a colorist and decorator. Today, his paintings are sought after for their authenticity and timeless charm. To own a work by Louis Garin is to welcome a poetic fragment of Brittany, between realism and emotion.
