Talwar Sword In Wrought Iron - India - 18th Century
Indian talwar sword, 18th century, featuring a strongly curved, wide blade with a thick cross-section, forged with power to emphasize impact and cutting. The blade features a sturdy back and a discreet longitudinal gutter, testifying to functional rather than purely decorative work.
The frame, typical of talwars, is made of steel, with a one-piece handle with short, widened quillons terminating in a slightly flattened shape. The characteristic discoidal pommel is topped by a central knob and ensures an excellent grip. An applied floral medallion adorns the front of the guard, adding an understated decorative touch.
The saber is preserved with its leather scabbard, with exposed stitching, showing a patina of use consistent with the age of the set.
