Iznik Ceramic Dish With Saz Palm - Circa 1600
ROUND IZNIK EARTHENWARE PLATE WITH FLORAL AND SAZ LEAF DECOR
Round plate made of siliceous earthenware with a polychrome decoration under a lead-glaze.
The center features a radiating floral composition arranged around a large central Saz leaf.
The decoration features tulip stems and carnation flowers rendered primarily in tomato red, cobalt blue, emerald green, and black. The rim is adorned with a wide border featuring a “waves and rocks” motif with black scrolls and blue highlights.
The reverse side features a simplified decoration of blue and green floral medallions.

Condition:
No major cracks or previous restoration, and the glaze retains a beautiful luster across the entire piece.
There are areas of chipped enamel on the tomato-red glazing, revealing the pigments in the central floral motifs.
Also shows slight wear on the rim and firing impurities beneath the glaze.
