Important Restoration period clock depicting Apollo - gilt bronze and marble

Beautiful and important Restoration period clock (circa 1820-1830) depicting Apollo, god of the arts and light in ancient mythology. This elegant composition perfectly illustrates the neoclassical taste of the early XIXᵉ century, still very much inspired by models from Antiquity.

The scene is dominated by a figure of Apollo finely sculpted in gilded bronze, depicted in a graceful, balanced attitude. The god is depicted with his quiver on his back and his bow, emblematic attributes of the divinity. The quality of the modeling and the finesse of the chasing testify to fine craftsmanship.

The circular dial is housed in a block of dark marble imitating a rock, creating a particularly elegant contrast with the brilliance of the gilded bronze. It features Roman numerals and delicately openworked hands, surrounded by a bronze bezel.

The rectangular gilded bronze base is decorated on the front with a trophy of arms surrounded by ribbons and foliage, a motif characteristic of the neoclassical decorative vocabulary. The whole rests on four finely chased feet, bringing stability and balance to the composition.

The clock is in very good overall condition. The wire movement has not been overhauled recently but works correctly.

With its 51 cm height, this clock features beautiful proportions, ideal for a mantelpiece or a piece of ceremonial furniture.

With its mythological subject, the quality of its gilding and its generous dimensions, this piece constitutes a very fine decorative clock from the Restoration period, both elegant and timeless.
