Nativity In Niche. 18th Century.

This is a singular interpretation of a traditional Nativity, fusing Christian iconography with a distinctly oriental aesthetic. It is presented in a gilded wooden niche in the Baroque taste, with mixtilinear profiles, designed as a private oratory. The Virgin, St. Joseph and the Child present an oriental appearance, both in their physical features and in their clothing.

The decorative object suggests intimacy, protection and devotion. The work thus acquires connotations of union between cultures: the European baroque of the niche intertwines with the sobriety of figures of Christian origin but with an oriental aspect. The whole invites a multicultural encounter.
