New work by Anders Osterlind, this time an oil on canvas depicting an excerpt from the park of Versailles in 1921, signed and dated at the bottom, countersigned, located + N°2 on the back, work probably offered at a former exhibition.
Size of canvas alone unframed 73x60cm and 85.5x73.5cm framed.

This is a new work by Anders Osterlind, this time from his Cézanne period, 1921, depicting the park of Versailles. How could we not call this rare and interesting period of his painting the Cézanne period! It's almost a carbon copy of the Aix master's...!!!! Indeed, as is often the case in this period, between 1915 and 1925, Osterlind employs a very powerful brushstroke in broad flat tints, plus a vivid, colorful palette, also highly contrasted, where here a cameo of greens meets yellows, intense blues, but also beiges, Terre de Sienne and even pinks/volines.
The years 1915/1925 were therefore the artist's most sought-after and sought-after years, a period when he painted in Versailles, where he lived, but also a great deal in Gargilesse, Brittany and even near Cagnes sur mer.

I no longer need to introduce Anders Osterlind, whom all my loyal customersknow and rub shoulders with, as one of my favorite and almost permanentpermanent fixture on my gallery walls, alongside Léon Detroy and Charles Bichet.Charles Bichet.
He was one of the spearheads of the famous Crozant schoolCrozant, one of the last great painters, also close to the painters ofBréhat and the Paris School, alongside his friends Modigliani,Soutine, Kikoïne or Kickert.
Son of Allan Osterlind, a great Swedish painter andpainter and friend of Maufra, Anders was born in Lépaud in Creuse, his heartlandregion, hence his attachment to the Crozant school. At first, he followedinspired by his father's work, but he soon detached himself from hisModigliani, Soutine and Kikoïne in Paris. But he would say that his lifelong master was Cézanne. And indeedwe see in his paintings between 1915 and 1925 that the master of Aix isvery influential. Anders' other favorite region was Brittany, especially Bréhat and the surrounding area, where his father had lived for a long time.
Anders will have 5 main periods in his work. The first until around 1915/1916, rather impressionistic, very close to his father, then a radical changeradical change, the 1916/1925 period very Cézanian and already verypowerful, followed by 1925/1932, when he began to find his true stylemore and more expressionist, with dominant shades of gray, hence the period, followed by the 1932/1943 "green" period, which is very similar to the except for a change in the dominant colors, followed by 1943/1960,with the death of his son Nanic (also a painter) in 1943, his paintinghardened, in the spirit of Soutine, with compositions that weredeconstructed compositions, with a powerful, richly textured touch. with a very powerful, rich brushstroke.his painting calmed down with views of Provence and Tunisia in the He set up his easel in many regions of France,Touraine, Centre de la france, Alpes, Pyrénées, Provence, Cantal,Charente, Orne and even Tunisia at the end of his life.but Brittany and Creuse were the regions he painted most, and he is todayof the Crozant school, thanks in particular to his sumptuousHe exhibited at numerous salons and galleries in France and abroad. exhibition at the Musée de la Vallée de la Creuse in Eguzonin Eguzon in 2023, accompanied by a very interesting cataloguecatalog published by Les Ardents Editeurs, which I highly recommend.you'll find some works very similar to the one I'm proposing.

I'm offering this canvas, cleaned and checked by a restorer, in very good condition, a few light cracks but anecdotal and regular in Osterlind's works ( the photos are taken before cleaning, I'll put new ones afterwards)
I'm selling it either at 1980€ in its period gilded frame, in fair condition but a little tired all the same, or at 2300€ in a very fine modern gilded frame, carved with ears ( photos from Thursday evening )
Work guaranteed authentic
