Pair Of Bauhaus Stools In Chrome-plated Steel And Walnut Veneer - Austria, Circa 1930

Pair of chrome-plated steel and walnut veneered Bauhaus stools - Austria, circa 1930

Attributed to the entourage of Karl Fostel - Sen's Erben, Vienna

Superb and rare pair of Bauhaus-period stools, made in Austria around 1930, in the spirit of Karl Fostel's productions for the Sen's Erben factory in Vienna.

These pieces perfectly illustrate the fundamental principles of the Bauhaus school: a quest for absolute purity, functional aesthetics and a harmonious dialogue between industrial and noble materials. The chrome-plated tubular steel frame, both light and sturdy, draws a fluid, architectural line, while the walnut-veneered plywood seat adds warmth and contrast.

The design is particularly balanced: no concessions to the superfluous, just the essentials. This masterful minimalism gives these stools a timeless presence, as relevant today as when they were created.

It's extremely rare to find a pair retaining their original trays, which here reinforces their interest for both collectors and discerning decorators.

Unsigned - which is common for this type of production - these models nevertheless fit with great consistency into the achievements of Karl Fostel's entourage and into the Viennese tradition of tubular steel furniture.

Condition:

Very good overall condition, stable and solid structure.

To note:

- a few stains and slight alterations on the trays

- small losses of lacquer and wear from use

- traces of oxidation and scratches on the chrome structure

These elements remain discreet and consistent with the age of the pieces.
