Louis XIV Period
IMPORTANT LOUIS XIV ERA PIC-CIERGE
Late 17th century - Carved wood formerly gilded with burnished gold leaf
Exceptional and spectacular Louis XIV period pic-cierge, dating from the late 17th century, featuring powerful and refined architecture characteristic of the Grand Siècle.
Resting on an imposing tripod base with wide carved scrolls, it is adorned on each side with an oval medallion centered on a cross in relief, framed by finely worked decoration and topped with elegant carved garlands. The ensemble offers a remarkable balance between architectural strength and ornamental richness.
The baluster shaft, punctuated by successive gadroons and moldings, rises majestically to its summit, which still retains its original wrought-iron spike, a now rare feature, still allowing the use of an important candle.
Originally entirely gilded with burnished gold leaf, this remarkable pic-cierge has preserved a patina of great beauty over the centuries. Natural wear, slight accidents, missing gilding and old repairs bear witness to its history and authenticity. These traces of time in no way detract from it; on the contrary, they lend it an incomparable presence, depth and charm.
This piece deserves to be preserved in its original state. Excessive restoration would cause it to lose much of its character and emotion.
The piece deserves to be preserved in its original state.
Originally intended for a prestigious setting, today this pic-cierge will find a perfect place in the entrance of a château, a historic residence, a reception room or even a characterful bedroom, where it will immediately create a warm, timeless atmosphere.
A piece of strong decorative presence, it is an authentic testimony to the religious and decorative furniture of the late 17th century.
Advisory to lovers of objects of character and Louis XIV furniture: large pic-cièges of this quality, preserved with their old patina and original pick, are becoming particularly difficult to find on the market.
