"Empire, Era, Empire"
Incense burner in patinated bronze and red glass – Empire period, circa 1810 Rare incense burner or table lamp in patinated bronze with neo-antique decoration, resting on a tripod base with circular feet, decorated with classically inspired friezes. The central bowl, in original red glass, is set in a finely openwork frame. The whole is surmounted by a lid suspended by three chains, with chiseled decoration of palmettes, evoking the objects of everyday life in ancient Rome. This piece is fully in line with the neo-Pompeian and archaeological style which dominated the decorative arts under the Empire. It testifies to the fascination for ancient models rediscovered during the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and is in keeping with the spirit of the Grand Tour, an initiatory journey of the European elites. Its intense red glass, preserved in exceptional condition, and its original patina, give this object a dimension that is as decorative as it is historical. A rare and precious witness to the scholarly taste of the early 19th century. Price: €680 – Non-negotiable Shipping in France and throughout Europe offered by Galerie De Cicco Careful packaging
