Marianne bust, allegorical figure of the French Republic, in formerly polychromed plaster, 3rd Republic, France late 19th century. In generally good condition, a tiny chip to the nose and a chip to the base are nonetheless noteworthy.
In the guise of a woman wearing a Phrygian cap, she represents the French Republic and its values translated by its motto: "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité". She is an important republican symbol and an icon of freedom and democracy. A national allegorical figure, Marianne occupies a place of honor in the town halls and official buildings of the French Republic, as well as in its events.
