Adolphe Déchenaud (1868–1926) was a French academic painter, born in Saint-Ambreuil and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
Trained at the Julian Academy, he is the student of Jules Lefebvre, Gustave Boulanger and Benjamin-Constant. Winner of the Grand Prix of Rome in 1894, he stayed at the Villa Medici until 1898, where he befriended André Devambez, François Sicard and Emmanuel Pontremoli, whose portraits he made.
He regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he obtained several awards, including the Medal of Honor in 1913. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1908, he was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1918. His work, rooted in the French academic tradition, includes portraits, historical scenes and female figures..
Condition : Good overall condition, yellowed varnish, can be kept for the warm patina or restored to regain more contrast and freshness.
