An intriguing effigy sculpture from the Colima culture of Western Mexico - this preform sculpture is an unfinished look at the process of creation and construction of early effigies. Made of a beautiful translucent stone with heavy mineral deposits throughout the body, this piece was abandoned before the final detail carving throughout the face and body of the effigy, leaving this piece as a beyond enigmatic figural silhouette. Displayed on included stand.

Provenance: Bruce McDowell collection, Wisconsin, USA, purchased through Sotheby’s, 1965.
