17th-century Boxwood Medallion Depicting The Baptism Of Christ

Superb and rare boxwood medallion carved in low relief from the 17th century. Circular in shape, it depicts the baptism of Christ, with the adorned Christ receiving the baptism of John the Baptist and all the corresponding paraphernalia, such as the dove with divine rays. The sculpture as a whole is of the utmost finesse and detail. We're very close to the very fine microsculpture sought after at the time. Note a barely visible repair with no missing parts. High-quality work in good condition.
