Metafora Coffee Table
Iconic "Metafora" model coffee table, designed by Lella Vignelli and Massimo Vignelli, published by Martinelli Luce in the 1970s.
A true manifesto of radical Italian design, this revisited iconic piece ,consists of a circular glass top resting freely on three geometric stone volumes: cube in Marquina, cylinder in Travertine, pyramid in Carrara ,The whole illustrates a pure formal research, inspired by fundamental solids and classical architecture.
Each element, in marble or stone, acts both as a support and as an autonomous sculptural element, giving the table a presence that is both minimalist and conceptual. The thick glass top unifies the composition while fully revealing the interplay of shapes.
Created in 1979, "Metafora" is today considered a major piece of twentieth-century Italian design, held in several museum collections and highly sought-after on the international market.
Slight signs of use on the glass and stone elements, consistent with age.
An iconic model of radical Italian design, the "Metafora" table perfectly embodies the Vignelli's conceptual approach, on the border between furniture and sculpture.
