Jean Hugon biography:
The people of Bordeaux know and appreciate thisartist born in Marseille in 1919, but a Bordeaux native by adoption.From 1938 tothe late 1940s, his landscapes, figures and still lifes are framed byand still lifes are framed by black lines and play on a minimum of subtly nuanced colorsreminiscent of Bernard Buffet.He held hishis first exhibition in October 1946 at the Chappe Lautier gallery in Toulouse.Spontaneously Fauvist in his early works, his painting is dense and rich in matter and color.rich in matter and color.FrançoisDesnoyer enabled him to progress and enter the world of Toulouse painters.painters. He joined the Indépendantsd'Aquitaine in 1970, then from 1980 onwards, he moved away from figurationeasy for him, moving towards the limits of abstraction and achievingmastery of his art. At the height of his exuberance, the last ten yearsthe last ten years become a superb song of liberated expression. Hisbecomes the translation of a moment, a feeling, a voice. Withoutmoving away from the bold colors of his early work, in the continuityof the Fauves, he continues to evolve, producing what he calls "allusive figuration".allusive figuration".
