C.-h. Cochin (after), 18th C. - The Peacock Complaining To Juno - Drawing
Drawing on paper depicting Jean de La Fontaine's fable "Le Paon se plaignant à Junon".
36 × 29.5 cm (with frame).
Mounted under antique glass.
The drawing has not been removed from its frame.
Between 1729 and 1734, Jean-Baptiste Oudry produced a series of drawings intended to illustrate La Fontaine's Fables.
In 1751, these drawings were acquired by Charles-Philippe Monthenault d'Égly, who undertook their publication in the form of illustrated editions.
The compositions were redrawn for engraving by Charles-Nicolas Cochin.
This drawing was made in the XVIIIe century, i.e. at the same time as these events, which may suggest that it could be the work of Cochin (from his workshop) with a view to engraving.
A priori, there is no trace of Cochin's drawings after Oudry.
This drawing deserves the attention of an expert or connoisseur
