Opaque white enameled silver eagle with five double rays with unpointed tips. It is surrounded by a plant crown. Visible between the double points, the wreath is made up of a sprig of oak leaves on the right and laurel leaves on the left, linked between the lower points. The foliage is enhanced by translucent green enamel. The center of the obverse is in gold. The medallion features an effigy of the Emperor on a radiant sun background; profile with small head. The listel, enameled in deep blue, bears the legend in gold lettering "NAPOLEON- EMPEREUR-DES-FRANCAIS", punctuated by a five-pointed gold star. The center of the rever is in orb. The medallion features the French eagle on a gold background. The deep blue enamelled scroll bears the motto "HONOUR ET PATRIE".

Mathieu Jean Baptiste GOMBAUD DE SERRVILLE , born July 18, 1748.
Enlisted in 1757, joined the Boutbonnais regiment in 1769. Successively corporal, sergeant, fourrier and sergeant major on May 1, 1773. Adjutant in 1777, standard-bearer on June 15, 1779, Quartermaster on July 27, 1782, Captain on January 30, 1792.
On July 10, 1793 he was appointed Commissaire des Guerres.
He took part in the Corsican campaign 2770, Italy 1794 to 2795. Served under General Krllermann.
On Germinal 23, An XII (1804), he was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
