18th-century Emilian Trumeau
Important 18th-century Emilian trumeau, entirely veneered in fine walnut with delicate string inlays, originating from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. The piece features an elegant two-section structure: the lower part with a fall-front writing desk concealing a fitted interior with small drawers, surmounted by a row of utility drawers, while the upper section consists of a two-door cabinet decorated with refined veneered panels and shaped reserves.
The top is crowned by an ornate shaped pediment with carved foliate motifs, typical of Emilian cabinetmaking of the 18th century. The walnut veneer, carefully selected and arranged in symmetrical patterns with decorative stringing, creates a lively and sophisticated surface.
Opening the fall-front reveals a well-organized writing interior with small drawers and document compartments, originally intended for correspondence and household administration. The lower section contains large drawers fitted with period hardware.
A piece of great elegance and fine craftsmanship, representative of the cabinetmaking tradition of Northern Italy in the 18th century.
