Late 19th Century English Mahogany Extending Dining Table (circa 1880-1900)
Late 19th Century English Mahogany Extending Dining Table (circa 1880-1900)
A very elegant oval extending dining table in high-quality solid English mahogany, crafted in England during the late Victorian period. The oval top features moulded and slightly raised edges with a beautiful warm, deep patina characteristic of well-aged mahogany over 130 years old.
The table stands on four boldly turned and reeded columnar legs ending in decorative ball feet, sturdy and perfectly proportioned. It retains its original winding mechanism (with turned wooden handle), which operates smoothly and allows the insertion of one or more leaves, easily converting the table from a practical everyday size to a generous dining table seating 8-10 people.
The original telescopic runners are still present, and the table shows honest signs of age and use that enhance its authentic antique character without affecting structural integrity. A classic and desirable piece of English antique furniture, perfect for characterful dining rooms or for collectors of genuine Victorian pieces.
