Sorrentino Coffee Table, 19th Century

An elegant coffee table inspired by Sorrento, crafted entirely from solid walnut in a warm, dark honey hue. The circular top features a refined alternating checkerboard inlay of walnut and light maple, framed by an elegant perimeter strip of light wood that adds brightness and definition to the geometric design.

The edge of the top is gently curved and features harmonious inlays in the same woods. The central turned column base, with classic grooves and bulges, supports three elegant curved legs ending in lion’s paw feet, embellished with carved details and fillets.

A typical example of late 19th-century/early 20th-century Campania craftsmanship, with a well-preserved original shellac finish that enhances the walnut grain and the chromatic contrast of the inlays.
