A decorative mid-century Limoges enamel plaque depicting The Creation of Eve, by Lucienne Martin, Limoges.

The composition is directly inspired by medieval stained-glass imagery, closely echoing the Genesis window at Chartres Cathedral. Adam is shown reclining while Eve emerges beside him, with God standing in blessing — a composition faithfully derived from Gothic models and rendered here in a vivid stained-glass style with bold black outlines and rich translucent colours.

The plaque is executed in painted enamel on copper, with a decorative border imitating stained glass window panes. A small cartouche bears the inscription:

“La Création d’Ève
René Limoges
de Lucienne Martin
Roi d’Amboise”

The wording reflects typical Limoges workshop practice of the period: “René Limoges” refers to the producing workshop. The phrase “Roi d’Amboise” is a reference to the royal heritage of the Loire Valley, indicating a connection with the historic town of Château d’Amboise, where such pieces were sold.

Measuring approximately 26 cm in diameter, the plaque is in good condition.

An attractive and characterful example of Limoges enamel work — and surely an “antique of the future”.
