Relic Of St. Primitii M.
A large and rare relic of St. Primitius the Martyr.
The figure of St. Primitius, a Christian martyr, is shrouded in mystery. Information about him is scant and fragmentary, drawn primarily from the Roman Martyrology and some later hagiographical sources. However, his liturgical feast, celebrated on April 26, testifies to his veneration in the Catholic Church.
St. Primitius was martyred in the territory of Gabii, an ancient city located about 30 miles from Rome along the Via Praenestina. The date of his martyrdom is uncertain, but some scholars place it during the Diocletianic Persecutions (early 4th century).
