Belgian painter, pupil of James Ensor, studied at the Brussels Academy.in 1930,
He joined the Jeune Peinture Belge group and at an international exhibition in Antwerpinternational exhibition in Antwerp, he won a silver medal. In 1939, hewas sent to the Belgian Congo by the government to paint. Hein Leopoldville and Elizabethville. Prevented from returning toBelgium, he decided to emigrate to South Africa.to South Africa.
In 1946, he founded the Continental School of Arts. After the war, heexhibited in Leopoldville in 1948, on the occasion of the fiftiethanniversary of the B.C.K. railroad, where four of his paintings wereby the Belgian government.
In 1952, he was appointed professor at the Michaelis Arts SchoolUniversity of Cape Town, and in 1965 as Dean. He exhibited in many countries, including a 1967 retrospective in Cape Town.considered one of South Africa's greatest painters.
