Pair Of Louis XVI Style Bedside Tables Stamped By The Jeanselme Company

Elegant and refined, this pair of Louis XVI style bedside tables is distinguished by its delicate craftsmanship and high-quality workmanship. It bears the Jeanselme stamp. Each bedside table opens with a drawer. One features a central shelf, while the other has a curtain concealing a white marble niche. The top is a veined, cherry-green marble set within an openwork gallery. Mahogany and mahogany veneer for this pair of oval-shaped bedside tables, known as "drum" tables. This set rests on four tapered and fluted legs, punctuated with chased bronze mounts and joined by a rosette-shaped stretcher, adorned with a central gilt and carved flower that supports the whole. All sides are embellished with a square gilt bronze molding. The Jeanselme (or Janselme) firm was an important family of cabinetmakers active from the Restoration period to the end of the 19th century. It was founded in 1824 by Joseph and his brother Jean Arnoux (business name Jeanselme Frères until 1840). In 1847, it acquired the prestigious business of the Jacob firm. The Jeanselmes produced a large quantity of quality furniture in the Restoration, Charles X, and Louis-Philippe styles, as well as those of the past such as the Renaissance, Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI, etc. The gilt bronze mounts are by Quality. The company collaborates with external experts such as the sculptors Jacquemart and Liénard, and the artists Klagmann, Clésinger, Falguière, Carrier-Belleuse, etc. They furnish, among other places, imperial palaces like Fontainebleau. The Jeanselme firm participates in Universal Expositions such as the one in 1855. You can contact me if you need more photos. All business inquiries are welcome.
