Elegant and refined, this pair of Louis XVI style bedside tables is distinguished by its delicate craftsmanship and high-quality workmanship. It bears the Jeanselme stamp. Each bedside table opens with a drawer. One features a central shelf, while the other has a curtain concealing a white marble niche. The top is a veined, cherry-green marble set within an openwork gallery. Mahogany and mahogany veneer for this pair of oval-shaped bedside tables, known as "drum" tables. This set rests on four tapered and fluted legs, punctuated with chased bronze mounts and joined by a rosette-shaped stretcher, adorned with a central gilt and carved flower that supports the whole. All sides are embellished with a square gilt bronze molding. The Jeanselme (or Janselme) firm was an important family of cabinetmakers active from the Restoration period to the end of the 19th century.
