Pair Of Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Wall Sconces - Directoire
An important pair of finely chased and gilded bronze wall sconces, each with two lights.
The vertical stem, designed as a ribbon-tied bundle and ending in a fringed tassel pendant, reflects the refined Neoclassical vocabulary of the late 18th century. The twisted, scrolling arms support simple circular candle cups in the Louis XVI / Directoire taste.
The composition is balanced, elegant, and architectural in spirit. The bright gilding gives the pair a strong luminous presence on the wall.
