Artist: Alfred Beau
Polychrome earthenware, circa 1880.
Decor No. 169 in the Porquier-Beau inventory.
The Porquier Beau Manufacture (1872-1905) was born from the association of the widow Porquier and the painter Alfred Beau in 1872. From their collaboration were born the famous paintings on earthenware decorated with Breton scenes, studies as rigorous as they were picturesque. Also attracted by Japonism, Alfred Beau executed a few pieces which heralded art nouveau in Brittany. The already high price of this production led to the closure of the factory in 1905.
