A Belgian painter and draftsman, Ernest Faut (1879–1961) belongs to the Symbolist tradition of the first half of the 20th century. Trained in Brussels under Constant Montald, then in Leuven, he developed a body of work imbued with poetry and spirituality, where light and chiaroscuro play an essential role. A professor and later director of the Leuven Academy, Faut left a lasting mark on the Belgian art scene. In the 1920s and 1930s, his style evolved towards refined compositions, both meditative and timeless, often devoted to religious and allegorical themes. His drawings, enhanced with gouache and executed with great finesse, reflect a subtle search for atmosphere and a deeply internalized sensibility, characteristic of his work. Works are held in several Belgian museums (notably in Ghent and Leuven). Exhibitions in: Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, etc.) and Spain (Madrid, Barcelona).
