Collection Of 14 Satsuma Faience Pieces. Japan, Edo And Meiji Period, Circa 1900.
Artist: Satsuma
The collection comprises 14 vases, incense burners, teapots, and a statuette in fine Satsuma faience, all damaged or missing lids. Some are of the highest quality for this type of decoration, which was referred to as "Imperial." Almost all are signed. The dog is made of Kyushu porcelain. This is an excellent find, especially for a restorer, as some pieces have only minor chips, and others are incomplete due to the absence of lids, which can be recreated in metal, making them more desirable. The finest example with a lid commands the price of the lot.
