Impressive 18th-century Silver Ewer From Lille
Artist: Devaucenne Louis François Joseph
An imposing 18th-century silver tripod ewer. The body and lid feature twisted ribs, scrolled feet, and attachments formed by a medallion surmounted by an acanthus leaf. The twisted spout is decorated with a garland and foliage. The neck is adorned with a beaded frieze, and the hinged lid is in the same style, surmounted by a finial in the form of a pomegranate with a foliate plume. It has blackened wooden handles. Hallmarked with the Lille city hallmarks, 1784-1786, by the silversmith Louis François Joseph Devaucenne. Height: 31 cm. Gross weight: 1113 grams.
