Large Bronze Sculpture By Eugène Delaplanche (1836-1891). Allegory Of Music
Eugène DELAPLANCHE (1836–1891), “La Musique”
Important bronze sculpture with a brown patina, signed.
As spectacular in size as in detail, Delaplanche’s violinist is a celebrated masterpiece of its time. It originally belonged to the foyer of the Opéra Garnier before being acquired by the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, where it is now housed. It is believed that Carl Jacobsen attended the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris (where it was exhibited) and eventually purchased it to add to his collection of European sculpture.
A beautiful 19th-century cast from the Barbedienne workshops.
Very fine brown patina on a work as rare as it is elegant.
