Empire Period Paris Porcelain Inkwell, Bleu De Roi And Gold Ground (c. 1810-1820)
We offer for sale an exceptional and rare desk inkwell of Parisian manufacture, dating back to the Empire / Restoration period (circa 1810-1820).
This refined object is a triumph of neoclassical elegance. The piece immediately catches the eye thanks to its magnificent, deep "Bleu de Roi" (royal blue) ground. This intense and noble color serves as the perfect canvas to enhance a decoration of the highest caliber.
The true masterpiece of this inkwell lies in its extraordinary and incredibly rich "gold on gold" gilding. The master gilders of the time skillfully alternated matte gold finishes with brilliantly burnished, polished gold. This technique creates a three-dimensional relief effect of unparalleled luxury. The striking contrast between the glowing gold friezes and the profound depth of the royal blue gives the piece a majesty typical of the most prestigious commissions of the First French Empire.
The inkwell rests on four prominent, fully gilded lion paw feet. The front section, shaped as a pen tray, is decorated with elegant scrolls and palmettes. The reverse side features a richly ornamented band with classical foliate motifs and a beautiful central medallion depicting a mythological scene with a putto and a goat. The top houses two inkwells.
A collector's piece of the highest quality, perfect for gracing an antique desk or adding to a fine collection of French porcelain. Excellent condition.
