French School Circa 1940 : "lipstick"
French School, circa 1930/40: "The Lipstick," charcoal and pastel on laid paper, 40.5 x 32.5 cm, mounted on cardboard, the reverse of which features a very damaged still life, mounted in a black and gold frame, 47 x 39 cm.
The mounting is sound, with a strip of wood separating the glass from the image. Numerous light foxing spots do not detract from the image.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to identify the signature of this splendid pastel, which dates from the late 1930s or early 1940s, with its sophisticated makeup and hairstyle. However, the elegance of the pose, viewed from a slightly low angle, and the charming gesture of the hand suggest a master.
