Catalan Painter. Rafael Durancamps "the Doll On The Artist's Table"
Artist: Rafael Durancamps
Catalogue Painter. Oil on canvas, "The Doll on the Artist's Table," signed lower left Durancamps. 53.7 x 81 cm. Spanish School. Rafael Durancamps (1891-1979) exhibited from 1915 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sabadell, his birthplace, and later in Barcelona. In 1926, the Catalan painter settled in Paris, where he opened an art gallery, La Fenêtre Ouverte (The Open Window), which showcased the finest works of his contemporaries. He spent his final years between Barcelona and Madrid. The National Art Museum of Catalonia owns several of his works. A unique atmosphere emanates from this painting, where time seems suspended and the codes of Surrealism lead us into a disquieting world. Here, unlike in a classic still life, the artist has imbued the small doll with humanity by emphasizing its gaze, which avoids the viewer, seemingly watching for movement or a presence beyond the frame. Through chromatic minimalism, the painter adds a touch of surrealism, reinforcing the dreamlike aspect of the scene. Modern giltwood frame. Good condition. 3200 euros.
