Pre-columbian Amulets And Beads
Three astonishing and rare 'amulets': beaded "balls with holes," made from hard stone spindles, and polychrome terracotta "pre-Columbian" beads (mounted on a thin, modern cord). Tayrona civilization, 14th-15th centuries, Central America. The carving of these "ball" beads required great dexterity and mastery of materials and tools to create this form. They are one of the vestiges of this magnificent, now-extinct culture. (Presented in a small antique cardboard box: 30 x 55 mm) Dimensions: Ball amulet beads: approximately 18 to 22 mm; Terracotta beads: 32 cm of strands of approximately 2 mm beads. (See last photos)
