Renaissance Bronze Candlestick – Henry II Period (16th Century)
Renaissance Bronze Candlestick – Henry II Period (16th Century)
An elegant bronze candlestick from the Henry II period (1519-1559), a remarkable example of the refinement of the French Renaissance. This two-part turned piece features a wide base with a recessed central boss, a design inherited from forms still in use in the early and mid-16th century.
The slender, perfectly straight stem is punctuated by two rings, one at the base and the other at the top, lending balance and verticality to the whole. The simple and harmonious candle holder is composed of two hems, without a window, a characteristic of certain models from this period.
This candlestick belongs to the tradition of so-called "column" candlesticks, of Italian inspiration, adapted and produced in France during the 16th century.
The underside of the base reveals a beautiful, old green patina, a guarantee of authenticity. The piece is in excellent condition, with slight signs of wear on the base. Uncleaned, preserved in its original state.
A collector's item, both decorative and historical, ideal for Renaissance art enthusiasts.
Dimensions:
Height: 19.3 cm
Base diameter: 10.9 cm.
Price excludes shipping.
Police Register Ref: A008.
