Ceramic Pitcher By Louis Dage, France, 1950s
Artist: Louis Dage
Enameled art ceramics with oxide and gold leaf, work from the 1950s in Saint-Sever. Louis Dage (1885–1961) was a French ceramist whose career spanned from the Paris region to the Landes, where he settled in 1935. He worked notably at the Faïencerie de l'Adour in Saint-Sever and developed a rich and experimental style, blending Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences with reinterpretations of Samadet's designs. His work is distinguished by the diversity of techniques used—enamels, drips, crackle glazes, and inlays—and by great creative freedom. Long overlooked, he is now being rediscovered as an original figure in 20th-century French ceramics.
