Light Cavalry Officer's Saber - Empire
Light cavalry officer's saber, Hussar or Chasseur à Cheval.
Its overall appearance is characteristic of the Revolutionary/Consulate period.
Hungarian-style hilt: a simple guard branch joining the crossguard at a right angle with a grooved face, a quillon curved downwards, a pommel with a long tail conforming to the shape of a lion's muzzle, and long, shuttle-shaped quillons.
On the hilt side, the quillon and the quillon are stamped LG.
Blackened leather grip. Filigree formed by a chain between two twists of brass wire.
Curved Solingen blade with a single fuller, blued for one-third of its length and decorated with floral motifs.
On the counter-guard side, the crossguard and blade are marked with three dots stamped with a punch, likely the maker's marks. No scabbard.
This saber is in good used condition, without significant pitting, with traces of bluing and gilding in the recesses.
