Edmond Tapissier Military Painting Portrait Of An Aspirant Who Died At Verdun In 1916, A Poilu Officer.
Artist: Edmond Tapissier
A large oil on canvas, 20F format, signed Edmond Tapissier, depicting a young officer cadet of the 20th Infantry Regiment in a horizon blue uniform. This work is in excellent condition and is sold unframed. Edmond Tapissier (1861-1939) was a renowned painter, a student of Cabanel and Fernand Cormon. A member of the Société des Artistes Français, he was appointed official painter to the Navy in 1921. His works are held in several national museums. During the First World War, he served as an army painter. It is highly likely that the artist painted this portrait posthumously at the request of the cadet's family, based on a photograph, to honor the memory of their son who fell at Verdun. A moving inscription is visible on the frame: "Aspt Maurice Picat - Killed in action at Verdun on April 6, 1916". Dimensions: 73 x 60 cm. Shipping with invoice, fast, careful, and very secure.
