"Beautiful 19th Century 9k Gold And Carnelian Mc Monogram Intaglio Charm Seal"
This beautiful chatelaine seal, pivoting on its axis, is in very good condition. It is probably of English origin. The front of the hard stone matrix is orange. It has a monogram with the initials MC or CM. The back is rather dark green with small orange dots. I think it is carnelian or sardonyx. We can see several hallmarks, partly faded and difficult to decipher, on the side and a 9 ct hallmark on the rod which holds the axis. I tested it with a touchstone and my jeweler confirmed it to me, it is indeed solid 9 carat gold. Dimensions of the oval matrix: 2.8 x 2.2 cm. Total weight: 13.78 grams.
